Enterprise vs Community MySQL

Hidden enterprise.
Waste 2 minutes downloading.
How many of us test it?

Sorry for the bad haiku. But why is the source for Enterprise MySQL releases locked up behind support.mysql.com? It takes me an extra 2 minutes to download and time is money. If I were an Enterprise customer, and maybe I am, I would sleep much better knowing that as many people as possible were using and testing it. You might even get the community to do more QA for MySQL for free!

  1. Well, if it makes anyone sleep better at night, Gentoo's emerge pulls the mysql enterprise. So Gentoo users are most likely using it.

  2. http://mirror.provenscaling.com provides significantly faster downloads than the enterprise site and there is no login.

  3. Gentoo pulls it from provenscaling as well.

  4. I care mostly about the "how many people are using it", and making bug reports.

  5. Arjen,
How do I determine usage? Eventually I want to upgrade from 5.0.37 to a version >= 5.0.54. I prefer community releases because they are more available and should get more testing. But the latest community release is 5.0.51. Which releases have gotten the most use?

  6. I hope more people are using enterprise both because we have made it easily available and mysql hasn't released community in 7 months. I prefer a single release over the community enterprise split.
